EuroSafe, the European Association for Injury Prevention and safety Promotion, is the network of injury prevention champions dedicated to making Europe a safer place.
Mission & Vision
Mission statement
To reduce both intentional and unintentional fatal and non-fatal injuries through increased coordination and strategies that combine and build upon existing strengths and capacities.
Vision statement
Working together to make Europe a safer place.
Task Forces
Introduction
The major strategic intent of EuroSafe is to create a sustainable and trust working network of experts and expert organizations and to increase co-ordination in the injury field at European level. Though its programmes EuroSafe proves its function as:
* a professional organization with a mission;
* a knowledge shop (injury data, good practices, network information);
* a strong communicator and initiator of actions;
* a bridge between policy makers and practitioners (research/intervention); and
* a forum for different professionals and disciplines to meet and share knowledge to develop effective action plans
It is envisaged to have the EuroSafe organisation developing into a genuine collaborative network of dedicated institutes in Europe (Centres of Excellence), all bringing into the organisation their specific networks, competencies, dedicated resources and leadership with regard to one of the priority topics for EuroSafe actions.
These Centres of Excellence (CoE) have responsibilities for one of the EuroSafe programmes, based on an agreed business plan and a (three years) financial plan that includes own resources on behalf of the respective Centre.
Each of the CoE’s have their own dedicated network of partners and country representatives in view ensuring a European wide spread of both input to the programme and outreach in the field. Most programmes rely on multi source financing, being own resources, EC-project funding, own contributions from partners and/ or commercial sponsors.
Introduction
EuroSafe promotes concerted action and research to explore priority issues and/or relevant methodological aspects of injury prevention work. These member-initiated activities aim to respond to the need to clarify the state of affairs and the way ahead on priority issues in the EuroSafe strategy. They should also serve the information needs of the entire membership and other stakeholders such as our European partners in the public health domain and in the relevant safety domains, the European Commission and the World Health Organization.
The proposed mechanisms for this are strategic Task Forces. To establish a Task Force a minimum of five partners should endorse the initiative, agree on a briefing as regards scope, objectives and work plan, and secure funding, and/ or contributions in kind, to implement at least the first year of operating the Task Force. For more information on establishing a Task Force please contact the Secretariat (secretariat@eurosafe.eu.com).
Task Forces report annually to the Board and to the general meeting of members of EuroSafe. These annual reports and reviews will help to assess the prospects for more sustainable actions on that issue in the following year, including the option of a transition to a long-term Programme of activities and the establishment of a Center of Excellence (CoE).
Current activities
Introduction
In this section you can find all the current activities being carried out by EuroSafe. These consist of projects being coordinated by the EuroSafe Secretariat as well as projects and initiatives being carried out by EuroSafe Programmes and Task Forces.
Knowledge base
Introduction
In the Knowledge base you can search for literature, projects, resources (such as fact sheets) and effective measures in injury prevention. The effective measures’ section added on July 1, 2007, is in the early stages of development and will be updated and expanded in due course. This also applies to the resources section. The Knowledge Base also houses an injury glossary.
You can either search in each separate section, with the exception of the injury glossary, or you can search in the literature, projects and other resources sections at once.
Partners
Introduction
In addition to the national organisations involved in the Programmes and Task Forces, EuroSafe has two main European partners - the European Commission and the World Health Organization. In addition, in the field of child safety EuroSafe is also working in partnership with UNICEF.
Furthermore, EuroSafe is actively represented in the Working Party on Accidents and Injuries and is a Work Package leader in the EC financed project, APOLLO - Strategies and best practices for the reduction of injuries.
